Melody Taskle is the latest victim of the serial killer and rapist known as Devil’s Advocate. He’s killed two prior victims but strangely, left her alive. After months of meetings with the detectives bring them no closer to catching him, and therapy fails to bring her back from the depression that’s overcome her, she runs away to a cabin in the mountains to be alone.

Kai Pierce is the leader of a S.W.A.T. task force struggling to learn about a mysterious cult responsible for various heinous crimes, including human trafficking, sexual violence, and murder. The Society of the Four Flowers is, also, suspected of creating and distributing a new drug deadlier than any the force has ever seen, a drug used by the Devil’s Advocate to incapacitate his victims.

When Melody’s retreat is interrupted by Kai and his team, they discover their two cases are linked.

With Melody’s expertise in ancient cultures, they better understand the origin of the Society and lead homicide detectives closer to catching the Devil’s Advocate.

Will they finally stop this killer and the ancient cult that’s existed for over 2,000 years? Who is this mysterious vigilante group the Devil’s Advocate tells her about, and are they friend or foe? When all is said and done, will Melody find a way to heal and let Kai into her heart?

“The Detective & The Socialite” is Part 2 in a serious of 3 mini-novels leading up to a larger collaboration. “Cultivating Lilies” is Part 1.

“Xièzhì” is the source for several elements in this series, as well as “A Tale of The Butterly and The Crane.” However, reading those two novels will not be required to understand what’s going on in this detective series.
